The Gospel of John

DAY 10 OF 30

The God Who Provides

In this passage, we see Jesus perform two amazing miracles: feeding over 5,000 people with a few loaves and fish, and walking on water in the middle of a storm. Both miracles show us something profound—Jesus doesn’t just care about our spiritual needs; He cares for our physical needs too.

Jesus didn’t send the hungry crowds away to fend for themselves. He provided more than enough, and there were leftovers. He didn’t leave His disciples struggling in the storm; He came to them, walking on the water, and calmed their fear. This is the Savior we follow—one who meets us where we are, both in hunger and hardship, in fear and uncertainty.

I've been married for over 13 years, and like many, we’ve faced seasons of financial struggle. One difficult season came when I transitioned into full-time ministry, but the church wasn’t yet able to pay me a regular salary. To support my family, I started cleaning offices. It wasn’t enough. But God made a way—my wife was offered a cleaning contract that provided just what we needed to stay afloat. That contract ended just as I began receiving a full-time salary. I saw God’s hand clearly in that—His provision came exactly when we needed it, not a moment too soon or too late.

If you're waiting on God’s provision, be encouraged: He sees you. He knows your needs. Just like He multiplied bread and fish for the crowd, He can multiply opportunity and provision in your life. It may not always come how or when you expect, but it will come—because Jesus is faithful.

Respond to God’s Word

  1. Thank God today for what you do have, no matter how big or small. Gratitude prepares your heart to see God’s hand more clearly.
  2. Share something with someone in need—a meal, your time, a financial gift. Be the answer to someone else’s prayer.
  3. Pray for faith in your season of waiting. Ask God to show you His presence and provision, even if it hasn’t come yet.

God still provides. Whether it’s bread in a wilderness or peace in a storm, Jesus is near. Trust Him with your needs today.
