A Little God Time for GrandmasНамуна

Gentle Answers
If you have ever been on the receiving end of an unkind word, you know how much it hurts. Children are particularly good at wielding harmful words. Arguments can easily escalate if they haven’t yet learned how to have self-control. They often speak before they think, and they don’t always realize the impact their words can have. Their immaturity and lack of control over their words need constant training and correction.
Children typically need to be taught to speak lovingly, show kindness, and seek healing instead of destruction. It takes time to teach children how to show restraint and how to use words that encourage and bless others. Scripture emphasizes the power of our tongues, and as adults we have the privilege of teaching the children in our lives how to honor God in this way. While we can take on the mantle of teaching children, we must also be aware of our own habits when it comes to the way we speak.
As a grandmother, you can share Christ’s love by speaking to your grandchildren in a loving way. Your words can offer them a picture of God’s grace and mercy. When they are unkind, correct them and encourage them, but above all else choose to speak to them in a way that encourages and uplifts them. Your kindness matters more than pointing out their flaws. Your patience and gentleness can be a great example of the patience and gentleness that God also offers them.
Your grandchildren probably won’t remember the gifts you give them, but they will remember the way you made them feel. The words you use are a big part of that. When your words and tone of voice reflect God’s character, you give them a little glimpse of how much he loves and cares for them.
