Retirement – Why Are You Still Working? Is That Really God’s Plan?Намуна

LACK OF FAITH: Is That Why You’re Still Working?
You’ve been faithful. You’ve worked hard. You’ve shown up for decades. Now, as retirement comes into view, you’re asking the right questions:
What’s next? What can I do that really matters? How can I serve God now?
But there’s one problem.
You can’t quite see it.
There’s no job description for the next phase. No performance review. No clear roadmap.
And without a tangible opportunity right in front of you, you hesitate. Not because you think God’s done with you – but because you’re not sure what stepping into His will even looks like at this stage.
So you wait. You drift. You stay busy doing what you’ve always done, not because it’s deeply fruitful, and not because it’s easier – but because it’s familiar.
You haven't lost your purpose, but you just don’t see the path forward. Maybe your faith just isn’t strong enough to leap into a new future – especially at this age – so you keep hanging on.
But what about faith?
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1
Faith says that you don’t need to figure everything out before you take the next step. You just need to trust the One who already has.
Just because you can’t see the opportunity doesn’t mean it’s not there. Remember when you were a kid? You just went for it. You chased the dream. No matter what others said, and no matter that you couldn’t see all the details.
In the same way, God has good works lined up for you in this next season – Kingdom-building work, using everything He’s developed in you so far. But He often only reveals that next step after you start walking. By faith:
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7
If you’re waiting to retire until you can see exactly how it will all play out, you’re not being faithful – you’re just hesitating. And that hesitation may be costing you your most fruitful years. Just as it says in that verse we’ve looked at before, written below just for you:
“YOU are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for YOU to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
Check the phrase “prepared in advance.” That means your role in this next chapter already exists. God already knows what it looks like, just like He knew how it would turn out when you were still a kid. But you don’t know it yet, because you haven’t stepped out in faith like you did when you were younger: so full of vision, even without the full plan.
Now, God has the plan for you. And you don’t need full clarity. You just need faith.
Or, think about it this way. For your retirement, God isn’t even asking you to bring the plan. He is just asking you to bring your “yes” to the doors He will open.
If God is nudging you toward retirement – if He’s opening that door – it’s because He’s already built the hallway on the other side.
You may not know exactly where it leads. But He does.
And that’s more than enough to take that next step.
