Psalm 119 With Matt Chandler: A 10-Day RightNow Media DevotionalНамуна

Day 1: Psalm 119:1–16
When you think back on your childhood, what is something you memorized that you still haven’t forgotten?
Odds are, you still remember this information today because you used something more than rote memory. There are all kinds of clever tools that help us retain the information we need to know. The same goes for Psalm 119, which we will be studying over the next ten days.
Reflect
Matt said that the ongoing ethic of the Christian life is not to hide our doubts, sins, and fears—as many of us often do—but to bring them to light before God and our Christian community. How well do you practice this discipline? What fears do you have when it comes to being honest about your struggles?
When children first begin to walk, they often take a few steps and then fall. But loving parents pay little attention to their stumbles—they celebrate the steps. God sees us similarly. He calls us to faithfulness and celebrates our steps despite our stumbles. How should God’s character change the way you think about your brokenness? In what ways does it encourage you to confess where you are weak?
Respond
The only way to get anywhere in life is to understand your starting point. And that’s true in our relationship with God. He knows us better than we know ourselves, so pretending to be something we’re not is futile. Confess to God where you are today and allow Him to cleanse you and lead you step-by-step to a deeper life with Him. And remember: God delights in you, even when you stumble.

About this Plan

Even the most mature believers face dark nights of the soul. During those times God seems distant, his Word feels dry, and the vibrant intimacy we knew before seems absent leaving us wondering, “Where is the Lord in this?” In Psalm 119, Matt Chandler aims to introduce viewers to the words of King David who experienced similar seasons of life. Serving as the anchor for the study, Psalm 119 demonstrates the power of God’s Word in the lives of believers and its ability to provide a warm blanket for the soul.
