David, a Man After God’s Heart

DAY 21 OF 24

Personal advice

“And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind.” (1 Chronicles 28:9)

At the end of his life, David gave one last piece of advice to his son and successor Solomon. This good advice was particularly powerful because of its warm, personal tone. When David urged Solomon to serve the Lord, he did not speak of a strange or unknown God. On the contrary. He had known this God all his life. From that experience, he implored his son to serve the Lord with all his heart. For David, that was the key to a good and joyful life.

Solomon was blessed to have such a God-fearing father who mentored him. Do you know people who live for God who can give you advice? And do you take their advice seriously?

Even if you don't have such people around you, you are blessed with God's Word which is full of wise counsel. Take David's advice to heart because it is still valid, also for you. It is even vitally important: “If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.” (1 Chronicles 28:9) Do you take this statement seriously? How does that affect your daily life?
