Risen: Readings for Easter

DAY 5 OF 5

When Jesus was resurrected, He wasn’t resurrected into damage. This wasn’t pulling a wrecked car out of the ditch, knocking the dents out of the fender, and then sending it back out onto the road.

This was so far beyond that. It can’t even be called restoration, because it wasn’t putting humanity back the way it was—Jesus’ resurrection is the linchpin that called humanity into what it always SHOULD BE.

We aren’t how we were. We’re called to be so much better.

We’re called to holiness. We’re called to put aside our former desires and set our hearts on heavenly things. We’re called to let our actions be the best endorsement of Jesus the world will ever see.

In today’s scripture passage, we read the Apostle Peter calling us to that betterness and encouraging us that we can indeed live in it. We’re called to be holy, and we can do it—not on our own power but through the resurrected strength God gives us.

On our own we just steer the car into the ditch. But with Jesus’ resurrected power animating us, we can speed safely down the road and let Him drive.

He is risen. So are we. May we live like it. Every day.
