Day 4: Living from Your New Identity

When Paul writes in Romans 6:11 to “reckon yourselves dead to sin but alive to God,” he uses an accounting term—like balancing a ledger. Counting money at the end of a day’s trading doesn’t change the amount of money. It helps you recognize your financial position and gives you a starting point for the business that follows. This is the same idea Paul uses to help us live this new life in Christ. This isn’t about feelings but about recognizing the truth of your reality in Christ, even if the sum of the calculations are sometimes hard to believe.

Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, your old identity tied to sin and failure has been replaced by a new identity in Christ. Galatians 2:20 beautifully illustrates this truth: “I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”

Living from your new identity means walking in freedom, no longer under the dominion of sin. The Holy Spirit now empowers you to live according to God’s grace and purpose. Every day is an opportunity to choose this new life and explore the endless possibilities to live with Jesus in the mission of God’s Kingdom.
