Devotional:

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Joshua is stepping into some big “leadership” shoes in following Moses, a gifted leader who led the Israelites out of captivity and helped shape how the people of God lived and worshiped while they traveled to the Promised Land. So God reassures Joshua with this powerful reminder of His presence.

Like Joshua, we often face overwhelming tasks or uncertain seasons that challenge our faith. Yet, God’s promise remains: He is with us wherever we go. This verse calls us to draw strength not from our own abilities but from the assurance of God’s constant presence. For the church, this is a call to live with the values of prayer (listening to God), surrendering our tendency to rely on our own strength and abilities, risking to trust God’s promise, joy as we experience His faithfulness, and authenticity as we walk in those uncertain seasons.

Prayer:

Sometimes we need to start with asking that God will help us trust His promises. Fear creeps in when we are overwhelmed or uncertain. It’s helpful to turn that fear over to God and ask Him to give us courage and a deep sense of His abiding presence so that we can obey Him. This applies to the church too. We forget that the early church risked everything to spread the good news. Might God be asking your church to take a kingdom-focused risk too? Pray for your church to rise courageously in obedience to His calling, advancing His kingdom without fear.
