Lessons From the Book of RuthНамуна

Many years ago, my very close friend and brother, Pastor Nicky Raiborde taught me this prayer from the book of Ruth which became one of my favourite prayers. It’s a one-liner that Jenny and I use very often. Whenever we are about to step into an important meeting, a government office, a bank or any other place where we need to depend on someone’s help, we pray this prayer:
“Lord, help us find a man in whose eyes we will find favour.”
In Ruth 2:2, we read how Ruth goes out to find a field to pick up leftover grains. She tells Naomi that she will go to the field of anyone in whose eyes she will find favour. Ruth lands at Boaz’s field, a man who ends up showing her incredible favour in the form of kindness, protection, comfort, and food and, finally, he even agrees to marry her (Read Ruth 2-4).
She exclaimed, “Why have I found such favour in your eyes that you notice me—a foreigner?” Boaz replied, “I’ve been told all about what you have done for your mother-in-law” - Ruth 2:10-11
The same word for ‘favour’ is also used in Genesis 6:8, where Noah finds favour in the eyes of God, and Genesis 18:3, where Abraham seeks favour with the Lord.
Favour from God often comes through favour from people.
Jenny and I have found this principle to be true in our lives. We have experienced God’s favour through people in more ways than we can count. We have come to realise that sometimes, instead of praying for finances, provision, or breakthrough, it is important to pray for favour.
Are there situations in your life where you need God’s favour? And are there ways in which you can show favour to others today?
Let’s pray!
“Heavenly Father, today I ask; help me find a man in whose eyes we will find favour in this situation__________________, and show me where I can be a vessel of Your favour to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Hey! You are a Chamatkar
