Stories of the Kingdom: The Parables of JesusНамуна

Parable of the Unjust Judge
Jesus tells a story about a widow who repeatedly goes to a judge seeking justice against her adversary. The judge, who neither fears God nor cares about people, initially refuses to help her. However, because the widow keeps bothering him, he eventually grants her justice so she will stop bothering him.
Jesus concludes the parable by emphasizing that if even an unjust judge will grant justice to someone who persists in seeking it, how much more will God, who is loving, grant justice to His chosen ones who cry out to Him day and night? Jesus encourages His disciples to pray, assuring them that God will not delay bringing justice for them.
Why do you think Jesus illustrates persistence in prayer with the example of a widow seeking justice?

About this Plan

Jesus was a master storyteller. He knew that the timeless principles He was trying to articulate would be best remembered through storytelling. He often spoke through parables to (1) communicate a more profound truth, (2) make His teachings more accessible to those who were ready to hear them, and (3) confound those who refused to listen. Parables were shaped to convey a single thought, so don't get lost in the details wondering what each part means. Absorb the story and allow Jesus to communicate His truth to your heart.
