It’s easy to view the people we read about in Scripture as characters in a story. In that way, they don’t seem real. Their challenges, their struggles, their triumphs, their experiences, the truth they have to offer us—it all feels a little intangible when we see them this way. But when we remember that those we’re reading about were humans too? Then, we can glean from their lives the example God has given us in them.
Take Peter, for example! As a man, he struggled. He loved and followed God, but he didn’t get it right all the time by any means. Still, the words he wrote to the churches and people he served back then—the words we can still read today—are real words that can change our lives. The faith we read about Peter experiencing is the same faith available to us today too.
Commit time this week to getting to know more about Peter. Read his story in Scripture and then dive into his writings in the Bible. Look for similarities in his story and your own. What can you glean from Peter’s life and words that can help shape your faith today?

About this Plan

Like a plant, our root system—our identity—is vitally important to our health. It’s how you see yourself in light of God, others, and the world. It’s what holds you when life changes, threatens, or causes you to question what’s true about you! We’ll look at how a healthy identity rooted in who God is will keep us strong, vibrant, and grounded no matter what comes our way.
