Have you ever tried to carry a heavy weight all by yourself? Maybe it was a backpack loaded with books down your school’s hallway, a heavy pack on your back uphill on a hike, or just a load of groceries in your arms from the car to the kitchen. If you have, then you know just how hard it can be! Sure, you start fine, but over time, that load becomes almost too much to bear on your own.
Well, this is similar to how we carry our shame. Like a heavy weight on our hearts, after we sin, shame threatens to hold us back and keep us down. Thank God for Jesus, right? Because of Him and the way He took on the weight of our sins for us, we no longer have to carry that load on our own. We don’t have to carry it at all! We can turn over our sins and shame to God Himself, knowing Christ has already taken care of it for us.
Spend time in prayer this week, confessing some of the things you’re carrying shame over to God. Talk to God about it and ask Him to take it on for you. Thank Him for carrying that weight so you no longer have to.

About this Plan

Like a plant, our root system—our identity—is vitally important to our health. It’s how you see yourself in light of God, others, and the world. It’s what holds you when life changes, threatens, or causes you to question what’s true about you! We’ll look at how a healthy identity rooted in who God is will keep us strong, vibrant, and grounded no matter what comes our way.
