I AM the Light of the world.

Today’s I AM statement shows us that Jesus is the light in the darkness.

Think about a time when the power went out unexpectedly at nighttime. All at once, the light is gone, and a room that once seemed familiar is suddenly dark and somewhat scary.

How did you feel? Uneasy? Frightened? Frustrated, maybe?

I bet when the lights came on you cheered, whether vocally or just inside your mind.

That’s what light does. Light is comfort, it is hope, it is understanding.

When Jesus says “I AM the light of the world”, He is saying I am hope. I am comfort. I am understanding.

In a world that is oftentimes the opposite of hopeful, comfortable and easily understood, isn’t it remarkable that Jesus brings those much needed things into our lives?

Jesus promises us that whoever follows Him will never walk in darkness. Why is that significant? Because it reminds us that whatever we face, we are never alone, and God is going to help us get to the other side.
