Got room for Jesus?
In his classic Christmas carol “Joy to the World,” Isaac Watts encouraged, “Let every heart prepare him room.” Jesus, the Lord and King, wants room in your heart. But I should warn you—Jesus is a big King. He’s not a little 8-pound, 6-ounce baby who waits in the corner to be your on-call counselor when you’re in a crisis. He’s not a Google God you reach out to only when you need something. No, he’s the Lord of the world, the King of the earth, the Boss of the universe. The Boss of you.
Is there room in your heart for a Jesus like that? Are you willing to tell “my truth” to pack her bags and evict any personal beliefs that don’t line up with the Word of the Lord? As the biblical proverb says, will you “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him” (Proverbs 3:5,6)? Honestly, most people won’t and don’t. Their hearts cling to the final vote, and submitting to anyone, even Jesus, is unthinkable.
But you don’t have to be like most people. You can trust that the Lord who lived for you loves you, that you don’t have to doubt the only One who died for you. Trust Jesus. Change your mind, and agree with him in everything. Let your heart prepare him room.

About this Plan

Christmas music often offers us much more than nostalgia and fuzzy feelings. In its lyrics we find a God so good that he came down from glory, took on human flesh, and lived as Immanuel—God with us.
