Pride. The Great Sin.Намуна

Boasting in Christ alone
“If you want to be proud about something, be proud of what the Lord has done.” (1 Corinthians 1:31 in the Easy English Bible)
The apostle Paul knows himself, and he knows a lot of fellow believers. We all are prone to pride. Therefore he repeats his basic message in several letters: “Where then is boasting? It is excluded. […] For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law” (Romans 3:27-28).
We, humans, can't take any credit for being our savior. None of us is righteous by his efforts. Thus there is no reason to boast about ourselves. Our salvation was a gift of grace. Therefore, we should not think we are better than anyone else.
On the other hand, we have very much reason to be proud of what Jesus Christ has done! He is our King and Savior. He is the ruler of the universe, but he humbled Himself to become human, even to suffer and die in our place. He "became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption” (1 Corinthians 1:30). All honor and glory should be offered to Him!
Remembering that your salvation was a gift of grace is a great remedy against pride and an enormous source of joy. Do you boast in Jesus Christ? How do you express this?

About this Plan

If you were to define ‘the greatest evil,’ you might think of murder, child abuse, or human trafficking. C.S. Lewis mentions something else: pride. He considers this the ultimate rebellion against God, from which all other sins spring. In this reading plan, we want to explore what the Bible says about pride and which consequences pride has for our lives.
