I Have Called You by Name (S1-E1)Намуна

You Are Mine
The Chosen begins with the story of Mary Magdalene, a woman possessed by demons. Luke’s Gospel tells us there were seven – seven demons that plagued her life and stole her peace.
The show portrays Mary as an outcast. The whole village knows her, and they know that she is beyond help. She works in dark places marked by addiction, exploitation, and shame.
But her life was not always like this.
From childhood, Mary knew the words, "Do not be afraid, for I have called you by your name..." They were part of her faith, a reminder that she belonged to God. But as she grew older and suffered the brokenness of the world, those words began to feel empty. Memories of abuse and fear overwhelmed her. They felt more real than the words her father taught her.
Mary was ready to give up on those words. She was ready to give up on God and herself. But Jesus wasn’t ready to give up on her. The episode ends with Him meeting Mary at her rock bottom. He speaks the words, and He makes them true.
"Do not be afraid, for I have called you by your name, you are Mine."
No matter what your past holds, these words are true for you, too. You are made in God’s image. No matter what brokenness you face, He wants a relationship with you.
