I have come to know that not all places have the same return policy. It depends on the size of the business and even the country you are in. In the United States, I have heard of people buying a Christmas tree and then once it is yellow going back to return it. No judgment here, it’s technically valid per the return policy. A friend of mine who lived most of his life here in the USA moved to Costa Rica and bought a house. He was remodeling so he bought materials, tools, and paint. Once he finished he had an extra unopened can of paint and went back into the store with the receipt asking for his money back. He got into a huge fight because they wouldn’t give him his money back. In the end, he went home mad and with the extra can of paint. Few places in Costa Rica have a return policy, but it is not the norm. The norm is that once you buy it, it is yours.
The story of Jeremiah is one of distress. Jeremiah is called to preach to Israel to return to their God and stay away from idolatry. For 40 years he preaches and sees no success in the ministry God had called him to. Not everything that shines is God-ordained. Let’s be honest, we probably would’ve given up. Despite Israel’s rebellion and lack of conviction to turn back from their evil ways God remains faithful.
Here’s the thing…God’s return policy is for life. In the Kingdom of God, returning is always an option. God leaves the door open and you can return. It doesn’t matter how many times you have turned your back on Him, or for how long, he continues to say “come back.” Maybe you think you’re too far gone, remember that Jeremiah preached for 40 years and Israel didn’t return, yet God never turned His back on His people. God is still calling you to return. As long as you are alive God’s grace is enough. His love for you is unconditional.
