Material blessings are a gift of God as well

“Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.” (Ecclesiastes 5:19)

The gifts of God are primarily spiritual blessings, and we are encouraged to focus on these: “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). Spiritual gifts last forever. At the same time, earthly treasures tend to lose value over time. Therefore it’s better to store treasures in heaven than save money on houses or luxury cars.

However, the Bible also mentions gifts of God that affect our daily life here on earth. God gives people wealth and possessions and the ability to enjoy their work. We should not take this for granted, but thank God for these gifts. Eternal life with God is not just longing for the new earth but also enjoying His goodness here and now. As the apostle Paul teaches people: “He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy” (Acts 14:17, NIV).
