Smashing stuff in church
I recently had one of my most memorable church moments. I built a tall tower out of Legos, so strong and sturdy that the little Lego guy I placed outside the walls had no chance to get inside. That image represented some of the lies with a stronghold in our heads that we can’t seem to shake. For you, that might be, “Everything is my fault” or, “Everything is their fault” or, “If I’m not perfect, I’m pathetic.” These lies feel immovable, impossible to change, don’t they?
But then I picked up a Bible. A big Bible. Holding that Bible like a baseball bat, I backed up from the Lego tower and swung as hard as I could! Boom! Legos flew in every direction as the tower exploded into hundreds of tiny bricks. (Honestly, it was so cool!)
What was my point? “The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds” (2 Corinthians 10:4). The Bible is our divine weapon, and it comes with divine power. What feels impossible for you to change is not impossible for God to change.
So pick up your Bible and swing it at that lie. Smash down your assumptions and take your thoughts captive, comparing them to the unchanging standards of Scripture. Lies won’t come out with their hands up. You have to smash some stuff and go get them.
Happy smashing, child of God!
