History Repeats Itself
Peter was back in ministry, spreading the gospel and changing lives. However, he finds himself once again struggling with insecurity. Even though Peter had found his way back to living out his call, Peter still struggled with fear of man. Peter had personally received the revelation that God had accepted the Gentiles, yet now he acted hypocritically. Peter lived one way when spending time with Gentiles and lived another way around Jewish friends and colleagues. He even disassociated himself from Gentile believers to impress Jewish leaders.
Like any weakness in our character, it is common to face the temptation to return to an area of weakness. Although Peter had overcome his previous failure with fear, he still needed to work through this fear in his life. In the same way, when we struggle with insecurity, we need friends to keep us accountable and a personal willingness to humbly keep working on ourselves.
Daily Challenge: Don't be discouraged if you find yourself occasionally struggling with issues you thought you had already overcome. Humbly pray and ask God to continue to mold your heart and character to be more like his.
