If Hollywood has taught us anything, it’s that a great story deserves a sequel. Well, did you know that one of the books in the New Testament is a sequel? Luke wrote the Gospel that bears his name, but he also wrote the book of Acts. Although Luke never met Jesus, he was a close friend of the apostle Paul and had access to many of the eyewitnesses to Jesus’ ministry. So, when he set out to write his account of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, he thoroughly investigated to provide us with the most accurate account.

But when Luke got done penning his Gospel, he knew there was more of the story to tell. Now, here’s the funny thing. We commonly call Luke’s second book “The Acts of the Apostles,” but Luke never does. He says his first volume contains only what Jesus “began to do.” That means that his second volume—the book of Acts—is the continuation of what Jesus did. Even though Jesus ascended to heaven in the first chapter of the book, everything that unfolds in the pages that follow is still the work of Jesus. And guess what? The book of Acts never really ended.

The story of God’s kingdom taking hold of the world continues. You are a part of that story, and it’s all still the work of Jesus!
