Monday: Blind Religion

The temple leaders saw profit but missed God’s presence.

Key Verse: “He said to them, ‘It is written, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you make it a den of robbers.’” — Matthew 21:13

The religious leaders were supposed to see God most clearly, yet their vision was blurred by greed and self-interest. When Jesus entered the temple, He saw a place meant for prayer corrupted into a marketplace. Worship had been replaced with transactions, devotion exchanged for profit. Instead of seeing the presence of God, they only saw an opportunity for gain.

Jesus’ cleansing of the temple wasn’t just about reforming a physical space—it was about restoring spiritual vision. Religion without true worship is blind; it goes through the motions without encountering God.

We, too, can become distracted by routine, forgetting that faith is about intimacy with Jesus, not just religious activity. Seeing clearly means letting Jesus cleanse our hearts so that our worship is real, undivided, and centered on Him.
