The Love of God - the Plumb Line

DAY 1 OF 5

As you approach the New Year, you may have new plans, resolutions, and goals. The lives of many people were altered by the Pandemic. For some, it changed their marital status from singlehood to married, married to divorce, separation, or being widowed. Some people took a hard look at their career path and decided to change course. Others have experienced a crisis of faith where they questioned their faith or even their belief in God, which resulted in them drifting away from Him. For some people, it was a good season for drawing closer to God. Whatever we have experienced in that season of uncertainty and chaos, we need to remind ourselves of some constants in our lives. May one of this year's goals be to remind yourself of a plumb line we always need to measure our lives against and see that we are building our lives based on some sound parameters. ### So how do we begin a new season moving forward while staying anchored? I am reminded of Zechariah, who moved from the measuring line to the plumb line. Whatever season of growth and advancement you are in, I believe God always wants us to return to the plumb line. What does this mean? We often measure how well we are doing by measuring our success in terms of quantitative growth. Success is not just quantitative growth (the measuring line) but rather about how we are building (the plumb line). Is the foundation of our life built upon Jesus and obedience to His word? That is a good plumb line by which to check our growth. In the next few days, let us look at some fundamental constants of our faith that keep us grounded in an ever-changing world. Here are two to think about. The two greatest commandments of loving God and loving one another must be paramount to staying rooted if we want to leave a legacy of lasting impact on people. These two plumb lines help us know that we are building well. ### REFLECTION How have you built in the last year? Was it using the measuring line or the plumb line?
