Have you ever heard the phrase, "misery loves company?" It's the idea that when we're miserable, we try to make ourselves feel better by making other people feel miserable with us. Sometimes we do that by lashing out at others, criticizing people, or trying to get our friends to complain about the same things we complain about. And sure, maybe that makes us feel a little bit better — for a minute, we feel something almost like comfort. But the truth is, when we're hurting, or frustrated, or disappointed, or having a hard time, we don't need a series of quick fixes. We need real comfort.

There are a lot of things, people, and places we often run to when we need comfort. But ultimately, only the God who made us can bring us real and lasting comfort. Aren't you glad God actually wants to comfort us?
