Lead Out People

DAY 5 OF 5

Lead out people seek humility over headlines. In today’s society success is often about being in the spotlight and being recognized so we can be applauded. Our human nature is allured by accolades and promotion.  Our actions to help, lead, or do something grand are often connected to the need we feel to be acknowledged. In John 13 at the evening meal with his disciples, Jesus took off his cloak and wrapped a towel around his waist. He poured water into a basin, leaned down and began to wash his disciples' feet.  In Jesus' time to wash the feet of someone was the job of the lowest ranked servant.  Jesus not only leaned down physically, he leaned down and took the posture of humility. He was not looking for accolade or position. Jesus was a lead out man! When Deborah agreed to go into battle with Barak she likely would have realized that Barak would receive the recognition. Deborah’s motivation was not on personal praise, but her ultimate goal was the triumph of the people of Israel. It wasn’t about her own accolades but the advancement of the common good and God’s people. QUESTIONS Jesus lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death. How can you choose humility over headlines this week and live in a way that puts others before your own sense of accomplishment?
