Day 1 – The God Who Sees Me

Base Verse (NLT)
“Then she used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, ‘You are the God who sees me.’” Genesis 16:13

Sometimes life leaves you in a desert like Hagar’s: alone, misunderstood, and running from pain. You don’t always run out of rebellion; sometimes you run because you’ve reached your limit. Because words hurt, looks weigh heavily, and your heart feels exhausted from trying to belong.

In that very place where no one seems to notice you, where the days feel long and the silence screams, God calls you by name. He doesn’t ignore your tears or your silence; He turns them into encounters. Every tear shed in secret is seen by the One who dwells on high yet walks with you on dusty roads. God doesn’t need you to shout for Him to hear; He sees the sigh you can’t even form.

Hagar wasn’t the main character of the story, nor Abraham’s chosen one. She was the servant, the foreigner, the one who didn’t fit. She was mistreated, cast out, and overlooked. Yet it was to her—not Sarah, not Abraham—that God revealed one of His most tender names: El Roi, The God Who Sees Me. That changes everything. Because when you feel invisible, God reminds you that you are within His sight. He doesn’t see you as a number or a failed story; He sees you as a beloved daughter, a work in progress, a story written with eternal intention.

He sees you when you smile while hiding your exhaustion, when you serve without recognition, when you love without receiving it back. God doesn’t just see what you do—He sees who you are. And though others overlook you, He stops for you. In a culture that rushes and only values visible results, God looks at what’s hidden: the process, the tears, the choices only He knows.

His gaze isn’t judgmental; it’s tender. It doesn’t rest on you to accuse but to remind you that you belong. Nothing escapes His loving eyes—neither your pain, your steps, nor your story. He sees when you struggle to stay strong, when you battle silent thoughts, when you choose to forgive instead of hardening your heart.

When Hagar met God, she didn’t just find comfort—she found identity. Her encounter with El Roi redefined her story. She was no longer just a servant; she became a woman seen by the Living God. That same God sees you today. He sees the parts of your life that others ignore. He watches your sleepless nights, your broken prayers, your quiet attempts to keep going.

Maybe you’re walking through an emotional, spiritual, or family desert. Maybe you feel like no one understands your pain. But if you lift your eyes, you’ll see there’s a well in the desert. Sometimes that well is called Presence, other times Word, and often it’s called Grace. God still appears where hope seems dried up.

Remember: it wasn’t Hagar who sought God—it was God who sought Hagar. And since that day, that has remained His order. God always takes the first step. Even when you hide, He searches for you. Even when you can’t pray, He listens. Even when you think no one sees you, He watches you with love.

Reflection Questions
1. When was the last time you felt unseen but realized God saw you?

2. How does it change your perspective to know God sees you even in your deserts?

3. What part of your story needs to be seen and healed by El Roi today?

Application

Take a few minutes to write down three recent situations where you felt misunderstood or unnoticed. Next to each, write: “God sees me.”

Read Genesis 16:13 and say aloud: “You are El Roi, the God who sees me.”

Let this truth become your daily affirmation: “God sees me, hears me, and is with me.

Close your eyes and imagine His gaze—not as a judge, but as a Father who watches His daughter with tenderness. Breathe deeply. His gaze doesn’t condemn—it sustains. It doesn’t accuse—it embraces.

And while the world rushes on, He stops, calls you by name, and whispers: “Even here, in the desert, I see you.”

Beloved, Not Forgotten

At times you feel invisible, as if your prayers get lost in the silence. But God has never stopped seeing you. This plan will remind you that you were loved, not forgotten. He sees you in the desert, remembers you in the waiting, and calls you by your name. No matter how much time has passed, His love continues writing your story with purpose and tenderness.
