This is another way you could think about it

What was your last thought?

Mine was: “Oh no, there’s a big dark stain on your new sweater—it’s probably never coming out.”

Haha. I’d love to know what your last thought was. But chances are it wasn’t, "Wow, today is going to be a beautiful day! Anything is possible!"

Oh, how I wish we would think like that more often!

Let me take you for a moment into a well-known Bible story—one that might show you something new today:

“Just then, a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, ‘If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.’ Jesus turned and saw her. ‘Take heart, daughter,’ he said, ‘your faith has healed you.’ And the woman was healed at that moment.” (Matthew 9:20-22, NIV)

You know what stood out to me today? This part: “She said to herself, ‘If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.’” (Matthew 9:21, NIV)

Just imagine you were this woman. You’ve had an incurable—and socially isolating—illness for 12 years. People avoid you. What would your thoughts be? Probably something like: “This will never change. I’ve been sick for so long.”

Why do we start with pessimism when every dark thing must bow to the name of Jesus?

Why not live by faith, so we can fully experience its power?

“She said to herself, ‘If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.’” (Matthew 9:21, NIV)

What starts with your words can lead to miracles!

And maybe that shift begins with small things today: “Oh no, a big stain on my new sweater. Eh, I’m sure it’ll come out!” And before long, you’ll find yourself saying: “I really believe God wants the best for me!”

Don’t you want to live like that… and stop giving any space to pessimism?
