Prosperous with Compassion

Compassion is not exclusive to giving money or belongings. It is a heart posture from which the Lord can work through us to reach others. You have the most valuable treasure in existence—a relationship with the living God, forgiveness, and newness through Jesus’ sacrifice. In the parables of the hidden treasure and the pearl, Jesus says twice that the Kingdom of Heaven is so valuable that it is worth selling all that we have to purchase it (Matthew 13:44-46). How would you treat others differently if you believed that, in every interaction, you could give someone that most precious treasure?

Peter and John knew this when they saw the lame man at the Beautiful Gate. “But Peter said, ‘I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk’” (Acts 3:6 ESV). When we know our prosperity comes from the finished work of the cross that has been freely given to us, it is easy to give it to others.

God speaks through Ezekiel in chapter 16, saying that one of Sodom’s sins was, despite her prosperous ease, not aiding the poor and needy (Ezekiel 16:49). Would you define your current situation as one of “prosperous ease?” Not simply financially, but spiritually. There are others needing the connection with God you have and the hope you carry. When we connect with God through Compassion, we not only receive what we need from the Lord, but we receive everything we need to help, serve, and love others as God has loved us.

Prayer

Father, thank You for being prosperous with compassion towards me. Help me understand the riches I have in the Spirit and to be bold in sharing them with others who need them. Remind me that You are enough to reach the lost, hurting, and broken. In Jesus’ name, amen.
