Unchanging and Forever Faithful

Although our emotions waver in the grief cycle, God does not. He is unchanging, always near, and forever faithful. Hebrews 13:8 says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is with us in the good moments and with us in the worst moments. He sees, cares for, and meets us where we are. He never ceases to speak the right words to our hearts at just the right moments.

Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

It's been a long time since I've walked on a trail of any kind in the dark, but every night before I go to sleep, I grab my phone and turn on the flashlight before opening the door to each of my kids' bedrooms. I enter their room and point the light down towards the floor so that I do not trip as I make my way over to their beds to tuck them in one last time, kiss them on the cheek, and tell them goodnight as they are sound asleep. I then turn back towards the door, shining the light on the floor until I exit their rooms. The flashlight on my phone is the lamp to my feet and the light to my path while I quietly try to maneuver around toys, books, and clothes that should have been put away as I slip in and out of their bedrooms.

Similarly, the Bible is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path as we navigate the unexpected tragedies and trials we encounter in this adventure called life. God has a special way of using His Word to shine light in our darkness and provide hope amid our suffering.

No matter what you may be feeling right now, hang in there, friend! We may not always know where we are going or the purpose behind our circumstances, but we can know that God is present. He is with us, and He is at work amid our wilderness. He can take what the enemy intends for harm in your life and use it for good. And while you may struggle to see what the purpose could be right now, you can find encouragement and light as you open the Bible and allow Jesus to speak directly to your heart.
