Fasting, the Key to Seeing Breakthrough
Fasting is a powerful spiritual key that God has given to His people. It is not just about depriving oneself of food, but about making oneself totally available to God. In Isaiah 58, the Lord declares that true fasting breaks chains, frees captives, and causes light to shine forth.
Throughout the Bible, fasting has been linked to breakthroughs. Esther called her people to fast for three days before facing the threat of death, and God changed the course of history. Nehemiah fasted and wept for his nation, and God gave him favor to rebuild Jerusalem. In the book of Acts, the apostles fasted before sending out missionaries. Fasting always prepares for a visitation.
In my fast of water and liquids, I discover that it is not God who changes, but me. Fasting strips me of my natural strength and opens me up to His power. E.M. Bounds wrote, “Fasting intensifies prayer and makes it more effective.” Yes, fasting is like a sharpened arrow that pierces the heavens.
Today, God does not necessarily ask for a long fast, but He invites each of us to set something aside to seek His face. Sincere fasting always attracts His favor.
Declaration of Faith:
I choose fasting as a key to breakthrough. I believe that God breaks yokes and opens the heavens. I proclaim that my fasting attracts the Glory of God and prepares for revival.
Prayer:
Lord, I offer my fast to You as an offering. Purify my heart and fill my emptiness with You. Break the chains in my life and set the captives free. Make this fast a seed of breakthrough for my generation.
Additional Scriptures:
 Matthew 6:16-18; Joel 2:12-13; Acts 13:2-3; Mark 9:29
