Day 10 – The Lord Reigns (Psalm 97)

Psalm 97 proclaims a truth that can anchor us in uncertain times: the Lord reigns. His throne is established on righteousness and justice, and all creation testifies to His glory. Though the psalm describes clouds and darkness surrounding Him, it also reveals that His light shines forth, consuming wickedness and filling the world with His presence.

In our daily lives, it is easy to become overwhelmed by the instability of the world. News of turmoil, injustice, and conflict can stir fear and uncertainty. Yet Psalm 97 lifts our eyes above earthly troubles to the unshakable reality of God’s rule. His reign is not temporary or fragile—it is eternal. His justice is perfect, and His purposes cannot fail.

The psalm also reminds us that His presence brings joy to His people. Those who love the Lord can rejoice, knowing that He guards their lives and delivers them from evil. Light and gladness are sown like seeds for the righteous. Even if those seeds take time to bear fruit, the harvest of joy is guaranteed because of His faithfulness.

This psalm points forward to the great declaration in Revelation 19:6: “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.” It also connects with Paul’s encouragement in Philippians 4:4 to rejoice in the Lord always. True joy is not rooted in circumstances but in the certainty that our God reigns over all things.

When life feels unstable, hold fast to this psalm. God is on the throne, and His reign is good, just, and eternal. Nothing can overthrow Him, and nothing can separate us from His love.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You reign with righteousness and justice. When the world feels unsteady, remind me that Your throne is unshakable. Help me to rejoice in Your sovereignty and to live each day with confidence in Your rule over all things. Amen.
