Pump It Up! Live Elated, Not Deflated Through Disappointing Days

Mysterious waves

From hearing some of my journey during the last 30 days, and from reflecting on your own situation too, I’m sure you’ve gathered that our life’s journey very often doesn’t unfold as we had hoped or expected! That was certainly true for me during my dinghy days and my subsequent transition to jumping aboard a speedboat to a new and very unexpected destination. I navigated redundancy, seeking employment during a global pandemic, then being thrust into a new career very suddenly, which I felt highly unprepared and unqualified for. At times, it felt like those waves could have taken me out.

I definitely feel as though I have sailed through some very mysterious waves. I’m learning to do my best to go with God’s flow on this front, and accept that his ways and his waves are way better than mine. He knows me better than I know myself. While my dreams and desired destinations can seem so sure and fixed to me, he sees into the future of the person I’m becoming and lovingly guides me to where I need to be, even though it sometimes seems odd and unexpected from my perspective. My challenge to you as we finish this plan is to ride God’s waves - especially the mysterious ones!

God undeniably steers us through Mysterious waves and surprising seas. As our Captain and commander who is fully at the helm of our lives and our destinies, he knows the end from the beginning. He truly knows the course we need to chart - but as we have examined, it’s unlikely to be a smooth and gentle journey. We will experience storms and choppy seas, but whatever the weather, remember that your Captain has command over the elements. ‘Even the winds and the waves obey him’ - however rough or mysterious the waves are, he will not let you drown or sink.

I don’t know if you ever sang this song in Sunday school, but as I finish writing this devotional, it has popped into my head - ‘With Jesus in the boat we can smile at the storm, smile at the storm, smile at the storm as we go sailing home.” Jesus is your Captain. He’s got you, and you are safe through both the stagnant and the stormy seas of life, with him at the helm. Pump up that dinghy and ride those mysterious waves.

Thank you for completing this devotional. I really hope it has blessed and encouraged you. If you enjoyed it, please check out my books ‘When God ‘Buts’ In’, and ‘Yule Never Walk Alone’ - available on Amazon.
