Awestruck: 30 Days of Wonder in the Bibleනියැදිය

In the ancient world, kings made covenants to demand loyalty.
They set terms, required tributes, and punished those who broke their agreements. But God's covenant with Abraham was shockingly different. It wasn't about control. It was about closeness. He promised not just land or descendants, but Himself: "I will be your God."
Picture Abraham standing under a night sky in Genesis 15, trying to count the stars as God promised his descendants would one day be just as countless. That night, a smoking fire pot and blazing torch passed between the pieces of sacrificed animals. In Abraham's day, both parties walked between the pieces to show they'd keep their word.
But that night, God alone traveled the path. He was saying, "I'll carry this covenant, even if you fail."
Later, in Genesis 17, God reaffirmed and marked this covenant with an everlasting sign—another reminder that His promises were everlasting. Abraham's participation mattered, but God's faithfulness held the weight.
We see this pattern throughout Scripture. God makes promises, and He keeps them. Not because we deserve it, but because that's who He is. That covenant didn't fade with time. It unfolded through Israel's history and reached its fullness in Jesus. Through Him, God invites you into His family. Not as a subject under a king's rule, but as a child welcomed into a Father's everlasting love.
Your belonging isn't fragile.
It doesn't rest on your performance or your circumstances. The God who bound Himself to Abraham is the same God who binds Himself to you in Christ. His covenant is everlasting, and so is His faithfulness.
You can trust Him.
Reflect:
How does God's everlasting covenant help you trust Him more deeply?
Tomorrow we'll meet someone who felt completely invisible—until she discovered God had been watching all along.
