30 Moments in 30 Days With Jesus

The Man with the Withered Hand

He was in the synagogue, surrounded by people, but still carrying something that made him feel less than whole. His hand was withered, completely unusable, and over time, he had probably adjusted his life around it. He learned to do things differently, hid it when he could, and accepted that this was just how things were going to be.

Then Jesus walked in.

The man didn’t even ask to be healed—Jesus called him forward. And standing there in front of everyone, Jesus told him to stretch out his hand that he had probably tried to keep hidden.

We all carry something that feels beyond repair: a habit we’ve stopped fighting, a relationship we’ve written off, a part of ourselves we’ve decided will always be broken. But Jesus invites us to stop hiding, to have courage and bring those things to him, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

To stretch out his deformed hand in front of a watching crowd, to expose something he’d learned to live with instead of hope for change, required courage. That’s exactly what the man demonstrated as he stretched out his hand for Jesus to restore.

Today, ask yourself: What have I stopped believing Jesus can change? What part of my life have I adjusted around instead of asking Jesus to restore? Don’t settle for managing brokenness. Bring it to Jesus.
