Common-Sense Christianity: A Study of Jamesනියැදිය

It’s common sense to stay off God’s throne
James opens chapter 4 with a question that still hits home: “What causes quarrels and fights among you?” (James 4:1 ESV). He answers the question bluntly: Our conflicts often come from selfish desires, pride, and the pursuit of what we want instead of what God wants.
Sometimes church fights really are over important theological issues, but just as often, they’re about water fountains, music styles, or personal preferences. James warns us that worldly desires—even in church—can make us enemies of God. That’s a serious thought for us to consider.
But here’s the good news: “He gives more grace.” God opposes pride but pours grace on the humble (James 4:6 ESV). That means there’s always a way back from division. We are to submit to God, resist the devil, and draw near to the God who loves us and wants us to walk rightly with him.
Want a better church? Start with humility. Want to resolve a conflict? Stop judging and start extending grace. James says there's only one true Judge—and it’s not us (James 4:12).
The next time a disagreement arises, ask yourself: “Is this really worth grieving God’s heart?”
Let’s choose peace over pride. That’s just common-sense Christianity.
