More Than a Performance
Saul thought God could be manipulated. He offered sacrifices and spoke pious words, hoping to get back on God’s good side. But God isn’t moved by empty rituals or rehearsed vocabulary. He’s after the heart.
David understood this. He prayed, “I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” His obedience wasn’t transactional, it was relational. He didn’t perform to impress God; he obeyed because he loved God.
Worship without love is noise. Sacrifice without devotion is theater. God doesn’t want the performance, He wants the person. He wants you.
And when love for God grips your heart, obedience is no longer duty. It becomes delight. Praise flows freely. Surrender comes naturally. That is worship in spirit and truth.
