Play Like Himනියැදිය

Day 4 - Rolls
There are all kinds of “rolls” in the game of pool. Sometimes you get a good roll, sometimes you get a bad roll, and most of the time, those kinds of rolls can’t be helped. But there is one roll we can control, and that’s the “eyeroll.” It’s a staple in the game. Many amateurs do it. I know I’ve done it. Occasionally, I roll them at myself when I leave myself bad, but mostly it’s in response to our opponents getting a roll on us.
But what does it do? Is there anything to gain from it? Is it ever positive? Nah, not really. In my opinion, it is almost always negative. It exhibits an attitude or behavior that doesn’t hold others in high esteem. Paul addresses this with the Philippians when he says, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” (Phil 2:3-4, NIV)
If we want to “Play Like Him,” we need to have eyes of compassion, eyes of joy, and eyes that lift others up rather than tear them down. Our hope is to live out what Paul said in Philippians 2:5, “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus,” no matter the rolls.

It’s easy to separate hobbies from faith—Sunday as “God time” and pool as “me time.” But God wants to be part of every area of our lives, including the pool hall, competition, and conversations. Your attitude, sportsmanship, and respect for opponents reflect your character and witness. Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus...” This reminds us to glorify God in everything. These five devotionals will challenge and encourage you to grow in faith as you learn what it truly means to Play Like Him!
