Romans 13
It’s Time to Wake Up

Have you ever woken up completely disoriented—pillow creases on your cheek, hair stuck in strange directions, unsure of where you are or even what day it is? That groggy moment between dreaming and reality can feel strange. But here’s the problem: some people never wake up. Not just physically—but spiritually.

Life can blur. You keep moving, but deep down, you’re sleepwalking. You’re scrolling, striving, surviving. And all the while, something inside you stays numb. That’s the world we live in—a place where it’s hard to tell where we actually are.

Where are we, really?
Here—In the church, among the people of God, there’s light and movement. People are sharing their faith. You feel close to God. You sense something bigger than yourself.
There—In the world, it’s dark. Brokenness is everywhere. Depression, confusion, loneliness, identity struggles. It feels like everyone is searching, but no one knows what for.
Online—There’s another world altogether. One shaped by filters and opinions. Social media creates an illusion of reality. It feeds our minds and warps our perspective, and it’s forming us more than we realise.

Even though we’ve never had more access to the world, our worldview has never been smaller. We scroll past suffering. We numb ourselves with noise. We start caring more about likes than people. And slowly, we fall asleep to the mission of God.

But Paul says in Romans 13:11: “The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” The alarm has gone off. The Spirit is shaking your shoulder. It’s time to wake up.

The mission of Jesus was never just for “church people.” It was never just to keep Christians comfortable. It’s not enough to be Christians for Christ. We’re called to believe for more.

  • Our families for Christ.
  • Our neighbours for Christ.
  • Our city, our nation, our world—for Christ.

This is the mission. Every nation. Every tongue. Every person. Everyone will see Jesus as Lord. But how?

By standing out.
By living boldly.
By waking people up.

It’s time to stop hitting snooze. God is at work around you, right now. The question is: are you awake enough to see it?

Who in your world needs to meet the real, living Jesus today?

Romans

Romans is more than a letter of personal salvation—it is a sweeping vision of God’s faithfulness. Paul retells Israel’s story, showing how God’s saving righteousness is revealed in Jesus, uniting Jew and Gentile, and forming a Spirit-filled family. This plan journeys through Romans as Paul unfolds the gospel of God’s new creation, calling believers to live as one people of faith, hope, and love.
