Joy Comes in the Morning…But So Does the Choice
Every morning, something shows up at your door.
Joy knocks….So does guilt.
Bitterness shows up early….So does peace.
Discouragement waits in the hallway….But so does hope.
Here’s the truth: you don’t get to choose what knocks…but you do get to choose what comes in.
Psalm 30:5 says, “...Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.”
That’s not just poetic…it’s a promise.
God sends joy at the break of day. It’s fresh. It’s available. It’s yours. But like any gift, you still have to choose to receive it.
And joy isn’t the only thing God makes new each morning. Lamentations 3:22–23 (NIV) says:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
That means every sunrise comes with fresh mercy, new compassion, and divine faithfulness tailor-made for today.
And if that’s not enough, let this be your declaration: “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24, NKJV)
David didn’t wait for a perfect day; he chose to rejoice in this day. That means joy is not circumstantial…it’s intentional.
The problem is, we often reach for yesterday’s emotions before we reach for today’s mercy. We replay guilt. We relive offense. We rehearse defeat.
But what if…before checking your phone, your schedule, or your to-do list…you checked in with God’s joy?
What if you said,
“Lord, I know everything may not be perfect, but today, I choose Your joy. I choose peace. I choose freedom. I choose to walk in what You’ve provided…not what I feel, and not what I fear.”
You get to decide what rules your day. Don’t let yesterday’s shadows block today’s sunrise.
Joy has arrived…open the door.
1. What emotion do you usually wake up with…joy, fear, stress, or something else?
2. How can you practically choose joy in the first moments of your day?
Father, thank You that joy comes in the morning. Thank You for new mercies every day. Help me to recognize that every day is a fresh opportunity to choose what You’ve provided. I reject guilt, bitterness, and fear…and I receive joy, peace, and grace. Today, I choose joy. I choose to rejoice in this day, because You made it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Joy shows up every morning.
The question isn’t, “Will it come?”
The question is, “Will you choose it?”
