Fitness: Caring for Your Body and Mind

Part of living an authentic life is taking care of your body and mind. Without a regular fitness routine, you will not be able to perform at your best. This is something I have seen most people neglect, even when extremely successful in other areas of their lives. But their fitness and overall health are extremely poor. In turn they end up living shorter lives and inevitably do not feel as well as they could.

I have created a unique fitness blueprint that, regardless of your fitness level, will potentially change your life. It will take some work on your part to answer the necessary questions in each blueprint step below, but when you are finished, you will have yourself a routine that will catapult you to success.

Fitness routines can be complicated and too vigorous at times. This one is extremely easy and repeatable for anyone who’s ready to take their fitness to the next level. Now, let us get to work.

FITNESS BLUEPRINT

1) Set Game-changing Goals

Grab a journal to write all your goals down—both short- and long-term, and everything in between. Make the goals big—dream big—but also measurable. Once you have written down all your goals, you are ready to be let loose on your goals.

2) Show Up for Workouts

Let us break workouts into two categories: cardiovascular training and resistance training. Both have benefits that are pertinent to your overall health. You can decide how you want to get those two accomplished. When you show up to your workouts, bring all of you. Give it 100 percent, based on what you have to give for that day. Work hard. Show up to your workouts with the intention of focusing on bettering yourself.

3) Know Your Numbers

When it comes to nutrition, it is the single most important element of a complete fitness regimen. My diet philosophy is simple: we all have similar functions with how our body works with various diets, but each body is uniquely designed. We are not all the same. Everyone has been given a different machine. The idea is that you discover what tools work best for your machine. It comes down to balancing two things: your macronutrients and micronutrients.

Your macronutrients would be where you get your protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Macronutrients are your calorie source. Micronutrients are your vitamins, minerals, and water. Micronutrients do not possess calories.

Do some research; try several diets and discover what works best for you. Remember, this is a lifelong journey. You should not be aiming for a quick transformation. If you have the right balance, you will be calorically aligned with what your body and mind need to perform at their best.

4) Prepare for Everything

The main point is to be strategic about how you prepare your food. And it must fit into your lifestyle. Decide what nutrients you need and plan out how you are going to consume them. It is important to know as you go about each day where you are going to get your nutrients.

5) Track Your Success

Most people fail to journal their nutrition. If you have access to a smartphone, download a nutrition-tracking journal. This will allow you to know exactly what nutrients you are getting from the foods you are eating. It is important to know your calories, protein, carbs, fats, and all your micronutrients. If you do not have access to a smartphone, you still have options. Buy a small handheld journal in which you jot down the foods you consume. If you decide not to journal your food, you will still need—at the very least—to take mental notes of what you are consuming on a daily basis.

6) Supplement the Missing

Unfortunately, due to the quality of the modern food process, we are missing vital nutrients daily. That is why I highly recommend supplements to assist in filling in that gap. I am not going to tell you exactly what supplemental nutrients to take.

Before taking any supplements, you should always consult your physician. It is a case-by-case process of discovering what is best for your body. Supplements will help you fill in the gap of missing nutrients.

7) Hydrate to Vitality

This is one of the single biggest things people neglect. I maintain a simple rule of thumb for myself: drink 1 ounce of water per pound of my body weight. I weigh 184 pounds, so I consume 184 ounces daily.

The benefits of keeping your body hydrated are many, a long list. The benefits are huge. Keep your body hydrated, and you absolutely will feel the benefits.

8) Manage Your Stress

Fitness is not just about working out and dieting. In order to transform or maintain your fitness, you need to learn techniques to reduce your mental stress. You can do any of the following: pick up a good book, learn something new, spend alone time with yourself, do focused meditation, pray out loud, begin a new hobby, get some good sleep, or get plugged into a community. All of these have one common thread: they allow you to depressurize and spend time doing what you love to do. Doing what you are passionate about will energize you and alleviate your stress levels.

9) Adopt a Never Give Up Mindset

You are your worst critic. You are the only thing holding yourself back. Without the right mindset, you will not likely reach your goals. Do not be your own worst critic. Get out of your own way. Make a conscious choice to think positively. Even if your circumstance seems daunting or impossible, with the right thinking you can accomplish anything. Have a never give up! mindset. You will win as long as you never give up on yourself.

10) Consistency Is the Key

This fitness blueprint is everything you need to accomplish your fitness goals. The only thing that could get in the way is you. Consistency is the key. I start and conclude with this thought. Be consistent even when you do not feel like being consistent. Keep your eyes on the prize. Even when you cannot see a clear outcome, take one step at a time.

Be intentional. Put in the work and you will get the results. Fitness is not something to be mastered; it is simply something to be consistent about—on a daily basis. Your new authentic self will thank you if you stay the course. Remember, in fitness, consistency is everything. Even if it does not feel like you are making progress, you are if you stay consistent. Be the victor—never give up on yourself—because if you do not quit, you are a winner.
