From Sunday Scaries to Sacred Stillnessනියැදිය

Sunday evenings carry a mood. The weekend is coming to an end and that can feel kinda sad. There’s a modern term for this called the Sunday Scaries because there can be a heightened sense of anxiety or maybe even hangxiety (hangover + anxiety) if you’ve been drinking. You might experience it in your chest before your brain even catches up. The enemy wants us to feel fear, dread, and even pressure before anything has even started. We’ve come to accept it as normal and just brace for impact. But what if there’s another way?
Hopefully, you’ve had a life-giving, restorative weekend full of intentional rest and renewal. In the book of John, Jesus promises to literally leave us His peace and He gives us that peace through the Holy Spirit. If you find yourself with a feeling of overwhelm or even dread, use these emotions as valuable “data” to bring your priorities, passions and even purpose before the Lord. If Sunday nights routinely become a downer, even after intentional rest, He may want to show you a different direction or a change to make. The work we do can keep us so busy that we may not even be aware of the adjustments that need to be made. Being sober minded (awake, alert, aware, and present) has benefits beyond just the here and now. John 10:10 says Jesus came so we could have an abundant (full, overflowing, joyful) life NOW.
So, you don’t have to spiral. You don’t have to drink your way through it either.
Let today be a declaration: I choose peace over panic. I choose clarity over chaos. I choose presence over performance. Sunday doesn’t have to signal stress. It can be a sacred space to reset and reconnect with God. Your emotions don’t have to run the show or set the tone for the week ahead, take command through your authority in Christ and let Him lead the way.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that I don’t have to carry fear into the week. Help me trade my anxious thoughts for Your eternal perspective. Fill my Sunday with sacred stillness, not the pressure to perform. Amen.
Journal Prompt:
What thoughts usually run through my mind on Sunday nights? What truth do I want to replace them with this week?
