When Mountains Don't Moveනියැදිය

Jesus once told His disciples, "If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move" (Matthew 17:20, ESV). For many of us, this verse shapes how we view biblical mountains as obstacles to overcome through faith. But Scripture mentions mountains over 500 times, and not all of them were meant to be moved.
Some mountains become sacred spaces where God reveals His nature and draws us closer to Himself.
One of the clearest examples is Mount Sinai. In Exodus 24:2, God tells Moses, "Moses alone shall come near to the Lord, but the others shall not come near" (ESV). While the entire nation of Israel camped at the base, only Moses was called to ascend into God’s presence. This wasn’t divine favoritism; it was divine formation. On that mountain, in the stillness and separation from the crowd, God gave Moses His covenant, His law, and a deeper revelation of who He is.
Mountains like Sinai can feel lonely. They pull us away from familiar rhythms and surround us with silence that can be uncomfortable. But in that solitude, God often speaks with clarity. He establishes promises. He reveals His faithfulness in ways we could never see in the noise of the valley.
If you find yourself in a season that feels set apart and isolated, remember this: your mountain of solitude may be the very place God is establishing His covenant nature in your life. Sometimes, the mountains we wish would move become monuments of His faithfulness, places where His promises are birthed and His voice is heard in a way that will echo for generations.
