How to Have a Real Relationship With Godනියැදිය

Day 4 - The Purpose of Knowing God
When you know the purpose of your relationship, you can pursue that relationship with intentionality.
I’m a wife, and I know that part of my purpose in marriage is to be a helpmate to my husband. Because I know my purpose in this relationship, I can be intentional to make sure my actions and decisions are to help my husband.
We, too, must know the purpose of our relationship with God so that our relationship with God can grow.
Our Purpose is to Love God
What is the purpose of our relationship with God? Let’s look at God’s first and greatest commandment for us.
Matthew 22:36-37 (NKJV) says, “‘Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?’ Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’”
Our purpose is to love God. This means that in order for our relationship with God to grow deeper and more intimate, our actions must show God that we love Him.
When we hurt God and sin, forgiveness is available. But a lifestyle of constantly sinning against God shows that we do not care about our relationship with God.
To love God includes loving His Word (His commands for us). May we have the heart of this psalmist: “Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long” (Psalm 119:97 NIV).
Remember that your relationship with God is a marriage. Jesus is coming back for those who have made the Lord their Savior; they will attend the marriage supper of the Lamb, which will be the celebration and fulfillment of our union with Jesus (Revelation 19:7-9).
Our relationship with God grows as we position ourselves daily to receive His love so we can love Him back. We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19 NIV).
Great Commission
Our relationship with God is not only to love God, but to love others (Matthew 22:39). This is also important because our relationship with God becomes complete as we love others from our union with Jesus. Jesus tells us in John 13:34 that we are to love one another as He loved us.
The love and mercy we receive from our relationship with God are meant to be shared with others.
God also commands us to go and make disciples, teaching others all He has taught us (Matthew 28:19-20).
Living out this Great Commission is essential to our relationship with God. We get to see God actively through our lives as we carry the ministry of reconciliation (drawing others to Jesus) according to 2 Corinthians 5:18-19. Loving others and being used as His vessel is what makes our relationship with God fun.
Just as it is fun having a common purpose and mission with your spouse or partner, the same is true with God!
Keep God’s Word before you always, that you may obey His Word and live with purpose. No one can replace your relationship with God.
An abundant life can only be found in a relationship with Jesus (John 10:10). Prioritize your time to be with Him and never forsake His first commandment to love Him with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
