“Do you care about yesterday’s weather?”

Have you ever noticed that when you open the weather app, you never check what the weather was like yesterday? Or have you ever watched the news and heard the anchor say, “Oh no, the weather was really bad yesterday. And the day before that! Do you remember when it rained there a month ago?” Haha, no.

We don’t really care about what the weather was like; the only thing that matters to us is what the weather's like today—or tomorrow!☀️

So why don’t we approach our lives in the same relaxed and easygoing way? Why don’t we also think, “I don’t care what happened yesterday. The only thing that matters now is today and the future!”

I love how Paul said: “I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead” (Philippians 3:13, ESV)

Isn’t that powerful?!

That humility—“I do not consider that I have made it my own”—means something like this: “Okay, I know I’m not there yet; there’s still a lot I need to process and change.” And then, despite that, the decision: “But I will consciously leave behind what is behind me, and focus completely on what lies ahead.” Which means: “I shut out every distraction!”

It’s time to look ahead because there’s so much for you to experience there!

Are you ready to look forward simply because God is calling you to? No longer rummaging through the past that is already behind you?

Then I encourage you to repeat this verse from Philippians 3 in prayer, adding your name into it as well: “I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: Forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.” (Philippians 3:13, ESV)

And I happily say: Amen. Amen. Amen.
