Day 11: “Carousel” Got It Right

From the very beginning, God made it clear: “It is not good for the man to be alone” (Genesis 2:18, NLT). You and I were created for connection—woven into God’s design is the need to live in community. Yet in a world that prizes independence and self-reliance, it’s easy to forget that faith was meant to be a shared journey.

The Gospels tell the story of four friends who carried a paralyzed man to Jesus. When the crowd blocked the door, they tore open the roof and lowered their friend down until he was right in front of the Healer. That man’s miracle came because he had people who wouldn’t give up on him. Scripture echoes this truth: “Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NIV).

Real community means stepping in when someone can’t stand on their own. Paul wrote, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2, ESV). Sometimes that looks like physical help, other times it’s emotional or spiritual support—but always, it requires presence.

And community doesn’t just happen; it has to be pursued and protected. Paul urged believers to “agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you” (2 Corinthians 13:11, ESV). Peace in community means working through misunderstandings, extending grace, and refusing to let division take root.

The early church modeled this beautifully. They ate together, prayed together, served together, and cared for one another’s needs so deeply that, as Paul described, “there may be no division in the body, but… the members may have the same care for one another” (1 Corinthians 12:25, ESV). That kind of unity doesn’t just strengthen the body of Christ—it heals weary souls.

You may be able to survive alone for a while, but you will never thrive in isolation. We were made to lock arms with others, to share in victories and help shoulder burdens. The beauty of community is that when you can’t carry yourself to Jesus, someone else can—and one day, you’ll be that person for someone else.

When you pause to invest in the right relationships, you’re doing more than building a support system—you’re creating a living picture of God’s love. And in a world where loneliness is on the rise, that kind of love isn’t just refreshing; it’s revolutionary.

Reflection:
Who are the people you can count on to carry you when you can’t carry yourself? How can you be that kind of friend for someone else this week?
