Attaching to Our Father Through the Lord’s Prayer by Cyd and Geoff Holsclawනියැදිය

Your Will Be Done
It can be confusing to pray for someone else’s will to be done. Our culture trains us to follow our own will, that to surrender our own will for another’s is dangerous and potentially abusive.
But Jesus only teaches us to pray for our Father’s will be done after the other foundational parts have been laid. It is dangerous to seek the will of someone who is only thinking of themselves, who can’t be trusted, who isn’t focused on love.
But our Father is different. Our Father
- is opposed to the evil one, is repairing ruptures, and is delighting in us;
- is the one who spans the heavens and is always available and attuned to our needs;
- is the stabilizing weight of the world, repairing the his own name as the One-Who-Repairs-Ruptures; and
- is expanding this family business of belonging and blessing to the whole world.
Our Father is totally focused on love and on repairing the ruptures caused by lack of love. The will of our Father can be trusted, even if it is not always understood.
Remember the big picture! The battle of wills, raging within and around each one of us, is between our Father and the evil one (the beginning and ending of the prayer).
The will of the evil one is to steal, kill, and destroy. But the Father’s will is to give life in abundance.
In all we do, we either align our will with our Father or with the evil one.
This is the entire reason the Father sent the Son—to give us the capacity to join our Father in the will to give life in abundance through the repairing of ruptures in the family business.
AS YOU PRAY…
Talk to our Father about what’s hard for you about seeking the Father’s will. Ask the Father to show you any places where you are seeking your own way over the way of love, the Father’s will. Ask for help to learn to trust the will of the Father.
