Day 3: Love’s Hidden Infrastructure

"He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD." (Psalm 33:5, NIV)

The psalmist makes an audacious claim: the earth is saturated with God's love. Not will be someday, not might be if we're lucky, but is, right now, completely soaked through with divine love.

This steadfast love isn't sentimental. It's fierce, relentless love that refuses to let corruption have the final word. God's love for righteousness means he's actively opposing every system that crushes human dignity. His commitment to justice means he's working through ordinary people to set things right.

Most of us have trained ourselves to see what's wrong first. We've become experts at spotting dysfunction, cruelty, and failure. But what if we're missing the deeper story? What if God's love operates like a vast underground river system, mostly invisible but constantly nourishing life wherever it surfaces?

The love that fills the earth shows up in unexpected places: the teacher who stays late with a struggling student, the neighbour who brings groceries to the elderly, the activist who won't give up, the parent who forgives again. These aren't random acts of human kindness; they're eruptions of divine love breaking through ordinary circumstances.

Perhaps your cynicism isn't more accurate than the psalmist's hope. It's just trained to notice different evidence. God's steadfast love is the baseline reality of creation, not the exception to it.

TODAY: Spend some time today actively hunting for evidence of God's love in ordinary interactions. Count what you find.

GO DEEPER: Identify one area where your cynicism has become a habit. What would it cost you to believe God's love is present there, too?

PRAYER: God whose love fills the earth, retrain my eyes to see the love that's already there. Help me recognize that I'm swimming in your steadfast love, not searching for drops of it. Amen.
