Day 1: Why "Not Enough" Is a Perfect Place to Start

In John 6, we see Andrew asking this: “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"

And he asked the wrong question. But honestly, isn’t the same question we ask every month when bills are due?

"How far will it go?" Listen to that question.

Andrew's doing what we all do - starting with lack, scarcity, measuring what's missing.

It's the same mental math that says:

  • "I need more income before I can start saving"
  • "I need a better job before I can get ahead"
  • "I need a pay raise before I can make a difference"

We're all Andrews, staring at what we have and concluding it's not enough. But Jesus was about to flip the entire equation.

The Holy Spirit made sure we knew these were BARLEY loaves. Not wheat. Barley. The bargain bread.

The ancient equivalent of the discounted store brand.

Think about that. The greatest multiplication miracle in history started with the worst bread available. While everyone else was calculating what they didn't have, this boy offered what everyone else would have been embarrassed to bring.

Right now, you might be sitting on your own "barley bread" - something so ordinary to you that you've never considered it valuable:

  • That thing you do that seems too simple
  • That knowledge that feels too basic
  • That skill everyone asks you about, but you dismiss

You've been waiting for wheat bread. And maybe God's been waiting for you to offer your barley.

So here is the question of the day: What common thing have you been dismissing because it's not impressive enough?
