You Can Do This! – Day 3

Judges 6:14, 16 (ESV)

“And the Lord turned to him and said, 'Go in this might of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?’ … And the Lord said to him, ‘But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.’”

I grew up in a mission-minded church in Ohio, but the thought of being a missionary never crossed my mind. I just figured mission work was for other people.

That all changed 30 years ago when I was studying computer science at a small Christian university. I had a professor who used cutting-edge information technology to assist mission organizations. He encouraged the students to likewise use their computer skills for mission work. He would often say, “You can do this!”

I had never heard this before. No one had ever asked me personally to step out in faith and use my practical talents to further the kingdom of God, knowing he would be with me. This reminds me of when God asked Gideon to defeat the Midianites. Gideon doubted that he could do this assignment, but God gave him a great promise that he would be with him.

What about you? Have you ever thought about obeying the Great Commission with the unique skills God has given you? You can do this! God is with you! Do you know someone who needs encouragement to get involved in missions? Tell them, “You can do this! God is with you!”
