What Next?

Now that we understand how much God loves us, what do we do now? Well, the Bible shows us that the longer we are in a relationship with God, the more our lives should reflect Jesus.

In Exodus 20 (this is before Jesus came to earth), God gives His people the 10 commandments to follow, as well as other laws that are found throughout the Bible. In Mark 12:28-31, Jesus then sums them all up into two commandments: To love God and to love our neighbours as ourselves. But the law was only designed to show us what a God honouring life would look like, the kind of life that Jesus actually showed us.

So, is becoming like Jesus something that just happens, or do we need to play a role in making this happen? Well, it’s both.

Becoming like Jesus is a process that God helps us with. It is called the process of sanctification, which is just a big word to describe that we are gradually growing in our friendship with God, and that He is changing our thinking and behaviour to become more like His. God does the heavy lifting with this, but we partner with Him by making choices to live a life that honours Him.

In our next reading plan we are going to look a little deeper into who Jesus is and why He needed to die for us.
